A large piece of the HELP grant is supplying the schools with food from a 150 mile radius. This serves a few goals: supporting our local farmers, providing fresh and nutritious foods to school children, and decreasing the environmental load of transporting food. Ten farmers provided over 11,000 lbs of food and counting to the Salus processing facility for the 2009-2010 school year. We will expand our farmer base during years 2 and 3 of the grant.
